Baroque Medusa Media Announces IN THE SKY by James Bacchi

Baroque Medusa Media is officially stepping into photography publishing with IN THE SKY, a forthcoming photography book by acclaimed iPhoneographer James Bacchi.

IN THE SKY brings together a striking selection of Bacchi’s black-and-white mobile photographs created across New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palm Springs, Paris and Budapest. The series began in San Francisco in 2015 and has continued to evolve through his travels, documenting the relationship between architecture, urban landscapes and the open sky above them.

A Decade of Looking Up

At once cinematic, architectural and deeply observational, IN THE SKY explores the tension between the built environment and the seemingly infinite space above it. Buildings, palm trees, signage, utility lines and architectural fragments become graphic counterpoints to open space, transforming ordinary moments into something more abstract and visually charged.

What immediately drew me to James’s work was the way he transforms familiar city details into compositions that feel graphic, cinematic and almost surreal. His photographs make you look twice at architecture, geometry and negative space, and especially at the relationship between the structures we build and the sky surrounding them.

James Bacchi, photographer and iPhoneographer behind IN THE SKY, published by Baroque Medusa Media.

James brings more than four decades of experience in the contemporary art world as a gallerist, curator, consultant and photographer. His photographic work has been exhibited nationally and featured by outlets including LensCulture, BBC Culture, VOGUE Spain, FRAMES Magazine, The App Whisperer and SHOUTOUT LA. His work is also held in private, corporate and museum collections.

Working exclusively with the iPhone, Bacchi embraces the immediacy of mobile photography, allowing him to respond instinctively to unexpected intersections of architecture, geometry, light and sky. IN THE SKY brings these photographs together for the first time in book form, tracing that visual language across cities and continents.

For me, this collaboration represents an exciting expansion for Baroque Medusa Media. In addition to publishing literary work, BMM is continuing to grow into photography and contemporary art publishing, creating books that give visual artists another way to present, preserve and share their work.

IN THE SKY will be published by Baroque Medusa Media. Publication date, pricing and additional release details will be announced soon.
