Introducing VACANT Arts Journal
For the past few weeks, I’ve been teasing that something new was coming to Baroque Medusa Media.
Today, I’m excited to finally introduce it.
Welcome to VACANT Arts Journal.
VACANT Arts Journal is a new semiannual independent arts journal dedicated to showcasing original work from creators around the world. From poetry, fiction, essays, and memoir to photography, painting, illustration, digital art, sculpture, and everything in between, the journal exists to celebrate creative expression in all its forms.
This has been an idea that’s grown into something much bigger than a publication. It’s becoming a place where artists and writers can be discovered, where different creative disciplines can exist together, and where every issue feels like a collection worth keeping.
Meet the Editors
VACANT Arts Journal is led by Baroque Medusa and Collin J. Rae, who serve as Co-Editors-in-Chief.
Together, we bring backgrounds in writing, publishing, and visual art, united by a shared commitment to discovering and showcasing authentic, original work. Every issue of VACANT Arts Journal will be thoughtfully curated to celebrate the diversity, craftsmanship, and creative voices of today’s independent arts community.
Every submission will be reviewed with care, and every selected piece will contribute to a publication built on originality, craftsmanship, and artistic voice.
Why “VACANT”?
The name isn’t about emptiness.
It’s about possibility.
Every creative journey begins with something vacant.
A blank page.
An empty canvas.
An untouched block of stone.
A camera waiting to capture a moment.
A sketchbook waiting for its first line.
VACANT represents that space before an idea becomes reality. The moment where imagination has no limits and every creator has the opportunity to make something uniquely their own.
That’s the spirit we want every issue of this journal to embody.
An Independent Arts Journal Without Boundaries
For our inaugural issue, Volume One, there is no theme.
Rather than asking creators to fit inside a specific prompt, we’re inviting them to submit the work that best represents who they are.
Whether your voice is expressed through words, photographs, paintings, illustrations, mixed media, or another artistic discipline, we want to experience your perspective.
The journal will be published worldwide as a paperback through Amazon and released twice each year, creating a collectible publication dedicated entirely to independent creators.
Submissions Are Now Open
If you’ve been looking for a place to share your creativity, this is your invitation.
Submissions for Volume One are now open, and we’re accepting original work from writers, poets, photographers, painters, illustrators, sculptors, designers, and creators across every creative discipline.
There is no submission fee, no required theme, and no expectation that your work fit into a particular style or genre. We’re simply looking for authentic creative expression.
If your work is selected, it will become part of the inaugural issue of VACANT Arts Journal, scheduled for publication in January 2027.

VACANT Arts Journal is the next chapter in Baroque Medusa Media’s mission to celebrate independent creators and connect artists and writers through a thoughtfully curated arts journal.
It’s a place where emerging voices can stand alongside established artists. A place where different creative disciplines can inspire one another. A place built for creators, by creators.
Collin and I couldn’t be more excited to finally share the official name with you.
