An Independent Arts Journal for Writers and Visual Artists
VACANT Arts Journal is an independent arts and literary journal published by Baroque Medusa Media. Created as a space for distinctive, unconventional, and original work, VACANT brings writers, photographers, painters, digital artists, and multidisciplinary creators together in one curated publication.
Published semiannually and available in print through Amazon, each volume will feature an eclectic collection of contemporary writing and visual art from emerging and established creators.
Now Accepting Submissions for Volume 1
VACANT Arts Journal is officially accepting art and writing submissions for its maiden voyage, Volume 1.
We are interested in creative work with a clear point of view. Your submission does not need to follow a theme or fit neatly into one category. We want the work that feels unmistakably yours.
The submission deadline for Volume 1 is October 31, 2026.

Who Can Submit
VACANT Arts Journal welcomes submissions from emerging and established writers, visual artists, photographers, and multidisciplinary creators.
Accepted Creative Work
Creators may submit original work in the following categories:
- Poetry
- Short fiction
- Creative nonfiction
- Personal essays
- Other creative writing
- Photography
- Painting
- Drawing and illustration
- Digital art
- Collage
- Mixed-media art
- Photographs of sculpture and other physical artwork
If your work does not fit neatly into one of these categories, you may still submit it. VACANT exists to make room for creative work that may be unconventional, experimental, or difficult to categorize.
Number of Submissions
Each creator may submit up to five original works for consideration using one submission form.
You do not need to complete a separate form for every file. The form allows you to upload up to five works and provide the title and a brief summary or backstory for each submission.
Original Work Only
All submitted work must be original and created by the person submitting it.
AI-generated writing, artwork, photography, or other creative work will not be accepted.
Submission Fee
There is no fee to submit work to VACANT Arts Journal.
Creator Information
The submission form will ask you to provide:
- Your name
- Your email address
- The name you would like published
- A brief creator biography
- Your website or one social media handle
- The title of each submitted work
- A brief summary, description, or backstory for each work
Please review all information carefully. The name, biography, website, or social media handle you provide may appear in the publication if your work is selected.
File Preparation
Before uploading your work, make sure each file is clearly labeled and ready for review.
Written submissions should be proofread and uploaded as requested in the submission form. Visual artwork should be submitted as a clear, high-quality image that accurately represents the original work.
If you are submitting a sculpture or another physical work of art, upload a high-quality photograph of the piece.
Selection and Notification
Submitting work does not guarantee publication. All submissions will be reviewed by the VACANT Arts Journal editorial team at Baroque Medusa Media.
Selected creators will be contacted by email before publication. Please provide an active email address and check your inbox regularly after the submission deadline.
Publication Details
Selected work will appear in VACANT Arts Journal Volume 1, a curated print arts journal featuring original writing, photography, painting, digital art, mixed media, and other forms of creative expression.
Volume 1 will be available for purchase through Amazon. Selected contributors will receive information by email explaining how they may order a copy at its list price without the standard retail markup.
Contributors are not required to purchase a copy.
Creator Rights
Creators retain ownership of their original work. By submitting, you confirm that the work is yours and that you have the right to authorize its publication.
If selected, you grant VACANT Arts Journal and Baroque Medusa Media permission to publish your submitted work in Volume 1 and to use the work, your name, and related submission information to promote the journal and its featured creators.
